BHCal Meeting Minutes
Friday, 2/20/2026

1.   Jan – Neutron and Charged Pion Calibration Studies
Jan presented updates on neutron and charged pion calibration studies, comparing Monte Carlo truth energy with reconstructed tracking momentum. He showed that the charged pion calibration is stable and consistent between MC truth energy and reconstructed tracking momentum as well as stable a function of energy. In contrast, neutron calibration exhibits strong energy dependence and significant challenges at low energies, making a direct transfer of the pion calibration non-trivial. He is currently exploring strategies to improve the neutron calibration.

Oleg suggested a correlation plot between Monte Carlo truth and reconstructed tracking momentum. He also proposed studying protons as an intermediate case to better understand the differences between pion and neutron responses. Additionally, he recommended extending the calibration model by adding a constant term to account for energy losses (e.g., in the magnet).

2.   Martin – 10G Readout System and Decoder Development
Martin reported progress on the 10G readout system and decoder development in preparation for the upcoming test beam. The 1G system is functioning properly; however, a configuration issue is preventing the local 10G cards from operating correctly. One card was taken by Gabor and is currently being debugged abroad.

On the software side, Martin implemented and unified the 1G and 10G decoders under a consistent API. He improved the software structure to make it more robust and developed a generic monitoring framework to support data analysis and onboarding of new users.

3.   Olaiya – Timing Resolution Study
Olaiya provided a update. He has obtained preliminary results from the timing resolution study and plans to discuss them with Norbert before presenting them next week or in the near future.

4.   Space Constraints in High Bay Area
Eric asked about updates regarding space constraints in the high bay area. Oleg spoke with Paul, and there is currently no occupancy plan other than moving in the jet polarimeter, which is not expected to happen for at least six months. Oleg plans to speak with Frank to negotiate space usage arrangements.
