AC-LGAD workfest, January 2026 ePIC meeting at BNL

US/Eastern

In general, the discussion was focused on testing/progress of the EICROC0-compatible sensors (4x4 channel) and the EICROC0 itself. There have been updates to the firmware which improve upon previous issues, and also allow for a "semi-streaming" readout, where the ASIC will record events over a time-window when the discriminator threshold has been reached (hit bit set to 1) for a pixel (or set of pixels). This allows TDC analysis with things like the Sr-90 source or a TCT IR laser.

There was also discussion of the testbeam plans. We are still waiting on a "yes/no" from SPS management, but our goal is to ensure we can test large strip and pixel sensors (with analog readout boards + external digitizers), AND that we can also test the EICROC0 + 4x4 sensors with the FPGA-based readout with an external trigger from the telescope.

A stretch goal (likely too ambitious) is to have EICROC1 + RBv1 ready for these efforts, but this is a very aggressive goal. In any case, this is the aim.

Once we have an answer from SPS, we THEN need to work on a case for such a testbeam with the project.

The project WILL NOT approve funds for such test beams without very clear deliverables, and they will require that we justify why these tests are needed to defend the performance of the AC-LGAD systems.
