Description

Today’s Journal Club talk will introduce the basic quantum electrodynamics of the circuit QED architecture for quantum computers and discuss the gates and measurements that are available in hybrid superconducting qubit-bosonic mode (microwave resonator) systems.  I will illustrate these capabilities with a recent experiment that used boson sampling to accurately model the Franck-Condon vibrational sidebands in the photoemission spectra of small molecules.  Time permitting, I will also discuss what the future may hold in terms of our ability to execute quantum simulations of many-body models of strongly-interacting bosons such as the fractional quantum Hall effect for microwave photons.
