Facility News

  • SDCC User Survey went out
  • Discussion of Next Generation HPC resources at BNL begins Wednesday, Jan. 6 2:00 PM EST
  • Next Liaison meeting will be Thursday Jan. 7, 2021

Network & Facility Operations

  • NSLS-2 network uplinks provisioned
  • CFN Lustre network uplinks provisioned
  • Network maintenance successful Dec 16 2020

Fabric

  • NSLS-2 HPC Cluster built with SL 7.9
  • GPU IB performance issue (x8 vs x16) issue solved by moving cards to PCIe x16 slot
  • centrifynis puppet manifest now in production, being used with our HPC puppet classes
  • Belle2 compute purchase dispatched to Supermicro  ETA ~January (~43 kHS06)
  • new sPHENIX dCache PNFS filesystem:    /pnfs/rcf.bnl.gov/sphenix
  • enw ATLAS fs:    /usatlas/atlas_itk_sw    (only on interactive T3 hosts for now)
  • REANA test instance deployed in our 6-node staff k8s cluster
  • Working with some users for testing let us know if you want to test
  • Discussions with developers for features such as: K5/IDP auth, batch integration

General Services

  • old gateways will be unavailable starting 1/1/2021
  • early ’21 plan to retire rcf3 host, replacing with [tex,cterm,cftp,sftp].sdcc.bnl.gov
  • GPFS upgrade completed for STAR and PHENIX
  • new MFA/OTP enrollment coming with PrivacyIDEA
  • Public facing website redesign is in progress

Tools and Services

  • BNLBox evaluating ClamAV effect on performance
  • ELK globus01 transfer logs going to new elastic stack
  • ELK syslog from log01 working on log stash parsing by service
  • ELK bnlnox monitoring sent to new elastic stack
  • ELK evaluating additional services for monitoring (dCache? HPSS? )
  • Digital Repositories:  ongoing InvenioRDM testing (latest alpha release)
  • Belle2 CDB:  ongoing JSON Web Token testing for access to CDB test infrastructure
  • Jira:  creation of account to track NSLS-II activities
