Nathaly - Barrel Crystal/Glass ECal

**************************************************************

  • first simple version of homogeneous PbWO2 calo implemented with 20cm depth
    • small code problems (no hits seen) -> Nico suggested fix
  • first study to estimate whether shower is contained in calo with 5GeV electrons
    • check whether higher energetic particles don't punch through (unlikely)
  • next steps:
    • fix code issues
    • check depth of Sci-glass version (~40cm)
    • implement tower geometries - will most likely need to be projective
      • in contact with PANDA calo experts to possibly port GEANT code for that together with CORE collaborators

**************************************************************

Pu-Kai - Electron End-cap Crystal/Glass ECal

**************************************************************

  • first version of 2 ring EEEMC geometry implemented
    • still to large gaps needs optimization, remove overlaps with other detectors
    • what is best geom version: square or ring in center?
    • Tanja will send mechanical model for support structure and calo
    • which plane should be aligned front/back (maybe not same plane in Z but R?)
    • do we need projective calo in this region, how is that correlated to crystal size?
  • first reco:
    • pointing to projectivity problems?
    • cluster center corrections correctly applied? projection value might not be at correct Z position for clusters
    • how many cells/cluster vs eta?
    • could use event-evaluator to do reclusterization yourself (with different algorithms), quicker for debugging
    • how precisely do we need to know the cluster position?
  • next steps:
    • continue integration: fix overlaps, reduce gaps...
    • push code upstream to check with other detectors (mod RICH, TTL...)

Craig - Calorimeter re-use

**************************************************************

  • Overview of considered sampling technologies for EIC calos
    • sPHENIX W/SciFi chosen to have low sampling fraction, increasing that could bring similar calo to const. 1.7% and stoch. 7.1%/sqrt(E) about 2x as deep though
    • diff shashlyk technologies could meet reso as well, however also about 2x depth of sPHENIX W/SciFi
  • sPHENIX ECal re-use (13-15%/sqrt(E)+3%, read-out in front, 2.5cm towers)
    • SiPMs will only last 3-4years -> need replacement for EIC
    • stochastic term partially due to un-uniformities in light collection and readout (only 23% coverage on top of light-guide)
    • main argument against CEMC e/pi separation with those parameters would only be ~10^-2 in full detector setup would need 10^-3 - 10^-4
      • would imply significant improvement in other det. technologies if we stay with this calo
      • reso could be improved to 12-13% /sqrt(E)+2.5% if read-out more uniform
      • read-out improvements would not only improve const term, but also stochastic term, as that is still partially influenced by errors on const. term
    • possible readout changes
    1. same light guide, replace SiPMs with 6x6mm version 23%->100% coverage of light guide end
    2. cut down light guide to cover entire area with 6x6 of 6x6mm SiPMs
    3. read out every fiber or smaller bunches?
    • test-beam for read-out changes?
      • could test 1-2 blocks right now -> wouldn't provide full answer
      • lacking man power (planning, electronics, ...)
      • should consider test in near future
      • funding for buying SiPMs?
  • PHENIX ECal
    • 1500 modules now used by STAR re-equipped with SiPMs
    • not projective, large tower size for forward usage
    • projectivity would mainly help between 1-2 \eta
    • if granularity for readout needs to be changed ->
      • fibers need to be pulled and new ones threaded - feasible?, at what cost?
  • W/Cu shashlik
    • would be ready for test beam, but needs more SiPM and corresponding electronics
    • could meet specs in forward
  • E864 Had-cal
    • needs more investigation whether it can be re-used in forward for E- or H-Cal
  • Does longitudinal separation help
    • Yes
    • Can we use light collection time to partially separate had and em showers in Ecal?
    • Collect light from different depth of calo?
