Minutes of ECCE Forward/Backward Meeting 24 June 2021
===========================================================

Present: Peter Steinberg, Mark Baker, Michael Murray, Tanya Horn, Alex Schmidt, John Lajoie, Igor Korover, Yuji Goto

Agenda & Slides at

Michael opened by thanking Mark for reminding him about the high X neutrons which go above the beam energy. Mark commented that the acceptance improves for higher energy. We need to understand the ZDC response as a function of energy.

>>> Todo:  (Shima, Quan) Check ZDC linearity and resolution as a function of energy all the way to 275GeV.

Michael reported that he has started discussions with Glasgow (low q^2 tagger), Orsay(Roman pots)  and LANL (B0 tracking). These discussion are ongoing.
>>> Todo: (Igor) Talk to Or about groups that would like to be involved in the off momentum detectors.

Bill commented that the ZDC is interfering with beam elements.
It is important to keep the current size so it would be best to move the ZDC forward.
>>> Todo: (Bill, Shima, Yuji) Check ZDC interference with magnet BXDS01B and possibly beam pipe.  (We should be realistic about services for this).

Alex commented that he didn't have a very good sense of how the detector and beam element placement has evolved from the yellow report as the project evolves.  It would be good to get a pedagogical review of this.
>>> Todo: (Alex) Invite Alex Jentsch and Yulia Furletova to give a presentation on this to the exclusive group.

Tanya commented that we have to prepare cost estimates.
>>> Todo: (Michael, Yuji) Start spreadsheet on channel count, cost for all forward detectors.

Next Meeting 20.00 EDT on July 1st.

Post meeting note on discussion with Carlo Munoz Camacho of Orsay
==================================================================

Michael and Igor met with Carlos in the afternoon. Carlos said that Orsay is working within ATLAS on DC-LGADs, specifically developing chips to readout 1.3mm X 1.3mm pixels. For Sensors they work with Alesandro Tricoli of BNL as part of eRD24.  Santa Cruz also looking into LGads.  CMS has another concept of electronics, CMS effort carried out by Fermilab which is not so interested in EIC.  AC coupling produces charge sharing between the chips and so threshold has to be lower. Need cooling and mechanics. About milliwatt/asci and about 500 chips gives about 0.5 W/plane. Constantin Lorzidos of ORNL is thinking about  mechanics and cooling.

>>> Todo: Michael invite Alesandro Tricoli to one of meetings.
>>> Todo: Michael reach out to Constantin about cooling.
>>> Todo: Carlos dig up cost estimates.
