High energy High Luminosity e+e- colliders using ERLs

US/Eastern
Description

We are studying alternative approaches to electron positron colliders using Energy Recovery Linacs that would allow a large reduction of the beam energy losses, and therefore a reduction of the power consumption, while providing higher luminosities and higher center-of-mass energies compared to exiting concepts. In addition, both concepts provide the possibility of polarized beams. We have studies two concepts:

  • CERC: Circular Energy Recovery Collider, as an alternative approach for a high-luminosity electron-positron collider in a 100km tunnel, with a center of mass energy reach up to 600 GeV, recycling both the used particles and the beam energy.  https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0370269320301982
  • ReLiC: Recovery Linear Collider recycling both the used particles and the used beam energy. The concept is based on segmenting superconducting (SRF) linear accelerators into sections divided by separators, where used (decelerating) beams are separated from colliding with accelerating beams by a combination of DC electric and magnetic fields. This design provides for undisturbed straight trajectories of the accelerating beams and on-axis beam propagating both accelerated and decelerated beams in the linac’s SRF structures. The center of mass energy reach could be 3 TeV and beyond. https://arxiv.org/pdf/2203.06476.pdf
