Description

We discuss how transverse single-spin asymmetries (SSAs) can probe new physics contributions to the anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments of leptons and quarks. We review the calculation of transverse SSAs within and beyond the Standard Model using the Standard Model Effective Field Theory. We present numerical results suggesting that interesting parameter space for new physics models can be accessed at a future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). We show that a proposed muon-ion collider can probe new physics parameter space potentially responsible for the muon magnetic moment anomaly, and can also improve upon existing limits on the muon electric dipole moment. We conclude with a discussion of potential new physics measurements with transverse SSAs using existing RHIC data.
