I followed up with Takashi's work and wrote a module using the sPHENIX event libraries to count the number of cade words encountered in the data stream per RCDAQ event, instead of piping the output through ddump through grep (though, that method also works).
I see the initial dead region for the beginning of run, but I didn't see the drop out far into a run. But looking closely at some of these plots, I think the slope may change slightly--I'll need to fit it to be sure as a next step, as well as analyze more runs.
The code uses the same implementation as the intt_pool.cc
