PPG04 (UE in Au+Au) - PPG/IRC meeting #2

US/Eastern
Description

Zoom coordinates:  https://cuboulder.zoom.us/j/94171888153

IRC meeting 3/10:
-proposal to defer event plane study for after QM- Gunther supports this idea, analysis without this stands on its own merit, removes issues of technical problems and missing documentation
-How much effort would it take to take a first look internally? Really depends on computing issues being resolved. Probably a sizable effort
-Would be good to see an internal version of the study if possible- could uncover some issue that we are missing in the current analysis. PPG will consider this possibility
-Don't see significant change with updated calibrations. Proposal to move forward with old calibration for conf note, as embedding cannot be redone with updated calibration on the timescale.
Slide 4 (new calibrations):
-how is this plot made without embedding? This is just random cones in MB data
-Are there are error bars on this plot?  Tanner will double check this.
-Why does the difference depend on methods/centrality/etc? Need to check the errors on this
-Do we need to add a systematic uncertainty related to this? Hard to answer without knowing about the errors. If this is really systemic then probably
-Do we use the old calibration for just the embedding or for everything? Tanner suggests to be consistent with the calibrations. Gunther agrees, but would be good to see for all the observables (which we can get) old vs new
-Sevil suggests to have updated calibration for all results except embedding and then include the difference in the embedding as an uncertainty
-Because we are comparing directly the MB data, probe, embedded jets Gunther suggests to keep the same calibrations for all
Slide 5:
-doesn't seem to be a significant positive vs. negative eta dependence- Tanner will fit and see if the slope is consistent with zero
-for random cones how many are there? 1 per event. Are they the same random cones for each method? No they are all independent. Can always increase the number of random cones, dependent on SDCC gods. Suggestion to try to get rid of the statistical fluctuations by increasing number of random cones (time permitting, low priority)
Slide 7:
-mean of distribution is dependent on the number of "jets" you omit from the rho estimation. Propose to keep omitting 2 jets
Slide 8:
-y-axis label is wrong in plot
-IRC agrees this isn't a big effect
Timeline:
-IRC comments on internal note in invenio by Friday
-Circulate conf note to IRC early next week. Comments before next IRC meeting would be helpful
-Next IRC meeting Thursday at 2pm eastern, will discuss comments on conference note then
-PPG will update the internal analysis note with updated plots, and add in cross checks from IRC review. Request to "tag" plots which are aiming to be public in the newest version of the note.
