DIS and SIDIS have traditionally been studied in one-photon exchange approximation with large momentum transfer. However, such a large momentum transfer can induce QED radiative corrections, changing the virtual photon's momentum. This results in trouble with the definition of a hadron frame in SIDIS, for example. One can handle collision-induced QED radiative corrections by incorporating universal lepton distribution functions (LDFs) into a QED+QCD joint factorization framework [1,2]. LDFs are, however, little known, so we need new observables to explore LDFs.
This talk will discuss single inclusive hadron and jet production of high transverse momentum (pT) in lepton-hadron collisions in the joint QED+QCD factorization framework to deepen our insight into the role of collision-induced QED radiative corrections. In the joint QED+QCD factorization, all perturbative collinear divergences along the direction of observed momenta can be factorized into LDFs of the incident lepton and PDFs of the target hadron, and FFs of an observed hadron or jet. Renormalization improved cross sections for the hadron or jet production can be obtained by employing DGLAP-type evolution equations for all the above universal functions. In this talk, we will discuss the latest numerical predictions for inclusive light hadron (pion, kaon) and jet production of high pT at energies of Jefferson Lab and the future U.S.-Electron Ion Collider (EIC). We will also discuss heavy quarkonium production at the EIC [3] to extensively clarify the impact of QED radiative corrections.
