Description

The majoron is a hypothetical pseudo-Goldstone boson arising from the breaking of a global lepton number symmetry. If the Majoron is an ultra-light field, it can provide a well-motivated dark matter candidate with tiny couplings to Standard Model particles. I will show how this field can induce neutrino-to-antineutrino oscillations as solar and supernova neutrinos propagate through the dark matter background wind. In addition to clarifying the theoretical origin of this effect, I will also present some new limits in the parameter space of majoron dark matter using current neutrino data and discuss some ideas to improve them with future large-scale detectors like JUNO, Hyper-Kamiokande, and DUNE.
