Abstract:

Physical observables are invariant under field redefinitions, motivating a geometric formulation of Effective Field Theories. After briefly introducing the role of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory in our search for physics beyond the Standard Model, I will discuss the redundancy induced by field redefinitions within the EFT formalism. I will then review the description of scalar field-space geometry, where scalar fields are treated as coordinates on a Riemannian manifold, and show how this perspective simplifies calculations involving higher-dimensional operators, particularly in the context of the Renormalization Group Equations. I will also discuss extensions of this framework to fields of arbitrary spin, focusing on fermions, and comment on the challenges associated with vector bosons. Finally, I will conclude by summarizing ongoing research directions toward a generic geometric framework applicable to any EFT.
