Minutes

  1. Announcements: Norbert Introduced Olaiya who is a TOA expert on BHCAL/HGCROC and Zisis introduced Jun Hyung Park who is a M.Sc. student at KNU.
  2. Beam Tests:
    1. Maria and Zisis have been working on the Hall D parasitic beam test request.  JLab responded (Yulia Furletova): we have been assigned weeks 1 and 2 on the left PS arm during the low-energy running (4GeV), and weeks 22 and 23 on the right PS arm during the high-energy running.  The start of beam is March 13, 2026.  The tests will include the Baby BCAL with S14 SiPMs, Aram’s boards and FADCs, but also Norbert’s boards and HGCROC.  Also, AstroPix layers and SFILs will be included; ETCs?  We plan our DAQ to be largely independent from Hall D, by using a scintillator paddle as trigger at a fixed energy (coincident with a particular PS paddle. ~130 SiPMs are available in Regina.
    2. Jeongsu reported that we have also been assigned beam time at CERN during the week of August 24-31.  While this is good, it falls on the last week (week 23) of the Hall D tests.  We will try to shift those dates if JLab allows, to have the Baby BCAL as a primary bulk calorimeter.  If this does not work, and bulk calorimeter may need to be made either at ANL or Korea.  ~100 SiPMs are available in Korea.
  3. Reports and updates:
    1. ANL has received new boards from Norbert and will be testing them soon. Norbert carried out some tests with LED and sees some cross talk.
    2. Norbert brought up the CALOROC workshop at the January 2026 ePIC Collaboration meeting at BNL. Bobae may bring hardware to BNL.  Norbert asked if remote access to the ANL DAQ is possible for debugging.
    3. Aram’s SiPM boards should arrive in Regina in early 2026.  These will be tested there and then shipped to ANL for more tests.
  4. Action Items:
    1. Zisis will collect information on the Pair Spectrometer and we will discuss this at the next meeting.
    2. Planning needs to kick off right away for the Hall D tests, in terms of planning registration and training, travel, shipment of equipment and finding shift takers.  Zisis will run point together with Maria and Sasha Somov (Hall D Staff Scientist and expert on the Pair Spectrometer).  We to plan how we will do the DAQ and readout at Hall D. Readout work needs to proceed quickly to be ready for the March beam test.
    3. People who are not JLab Users needs to register and go through training if the intend to participate in the beam tests.  Registration must be done at least 7 days before the visit, but it is prudent to do so 14 or more days before.
    4. We need to find a solution for the overlap of Hall D and CERN beam tests.
    5. Remote access to ANL DAQ?
  5. The next meetings will be on January 6 (ESB) and January 13 (System Testing); we plan to use these meetings interchangeably, to deal with all topics in a timely manner, especially considering that the Hall D tests are in mid March. Presentations and updates are encouraged.
