ePIC Software & Computing Weekly Meeting: ROOT: RNTuple, RDataframe
In this week’s ePIC Software & Computing meeting, we will have a presentation by Jakob Blomer (CERN) on “ROOT for Future Experiments: RDataFrame, RNTuple & More.” The discussion will cover both I/O and analysis interfaces. RNTuple is ROOT’s modern I/O format for columnar event data, designed as a successor to TTree with the goal of improving performance, scalability, and usability for future analysis workflows. RDataFrame is ROOT’s modern interface for describing analysis workflows, allowing users to define selections, derived quantities, histograms, and outputs in a declarative way using either Python or C++.
Before the presentation, we will share results from a brief survey on analysis formats and tools. These results will help guide how we adapt to ongoing RNTuple and RDataFrame developments, and will also prepare us for a broader discussion later in the year on analysis models, tools, and workflows.
