Emerging Nanomaterials and Nanostructures for Plasmonics and Nanophotonics Applications (Workshop 4)

US/Eastern
Description

Advances in nanotechnology have led to the creation of nanostructures capable to manipulate and control light at the nanoscale. This has led to the birth of the fields of plasmonics and nanophotonics exploring research topics dealing with interactions of light with nanostructures which for example can lead to light confinement, increased local electromagnetic fields or improved light harvesting. Nowadays, the fields of plasmonics and nanophotonics span various disciplines from materials science to chemistry, biology and medicine, and many of the results of such studies show promise to mature in technologically relevant applications. NSLS-II and CFN are timely well positioned to play an important role in providing both expertise and support through their advanced nanofabrication and nanocharacterization tools to the NSLSII/CFN user community. This workshop aims to bring to the NSLSII/CFN user community world renowned experts working on the synthesis and characterization of emerging plasmonics and nanophotonics materials as well on studying light-matter interactions involving various types of nanostructures. The objective of this workshop is to provide a forum for the NSLS-II/CFN user community to explore the research frontier in plasmonics and nanophotonics and to identify synergistic NSLS-II/CFN experiments which can lead to transformative advances in the field.

Workshop organizers: Mircea Cotlet (BNL), Mingzhao Liu (BNL), Oleg Gang (Columbia/BNL), Fang Lu (BNL), Aaron Stein (BNL)
