Facility News & Announcements

 

Network

  • Migration Intervention was completed 8/21

  • PHENIX central DB and dCache will move from 4-9 to 45-6

  • SciZone/RHIC CH perimeter firewall upgrade had issues then rolled back successfully

  • major legacy 1Gb copper and patch panel removal is underway for racks migrated to TOR

Storage

  • 2PB additional RHIC central storage is in FY 2019 budget ETA to BNL soon (late ‘18)

HPSS

  • normal operations; STAR tapes were delivered to BNL

General Services

  • mail service restarted on all servers to strengthen security; TLS 1.0 will be disabled soon

  • rftpexp servers interactive login and port forwarding will be restricted to address security

  • user home directories and BlueArc data cut over to GPFS and the new to NetApp appliance

  • NX was upgraded to latest release

Linux Farm

  • TOR switch migration and re-IP of 800+ RHIC nodes completed 8/21 maintenance

  • issue/bug with tcsh history file lock was found and fixed

  • liaisons now have sudo privilege to su - any user within their experiment and clean batch

CSI

  • normal operations; IC-cluster expansion in procurement

Services & Tools

  • Mailman, Indico plugins, Invenio, Jupyter, in development not yet ready for general use

  • LDAP/Kerberos will migrate into IPA and Keycloak (SSO/AUTH) will replace Shibboleth

  • user impact - required to login to gateway and change password (first time only)

  • Technology Talk on Jupyter Notebook scheduled 9/27 with Ofer Rind
