EIC computing updates

US/Eastern

Attendees: J. Lauret, K. Kauder, T. Ullrich, E. Lancon, E. Aschenauer, A. Kiselev, T. Wenaus, M. Potekhin

Went through the slides + AOB

  • PhoneBook - records must be kept for the registration process to be smooth, proposal to make sure the list is revisited at least once every 6 months (TBC). EIC Institutional Board aware.
PhoneBook version seem old - this needs a revisit : versions in STAR, EIC, sPHENIX stem from the TSRA PhoneBook but with very different features - time for making a code consolidation and have a single source, configurable setup? Agreed [software issue]

  • Please provide feedback on the registration instructions.

  • EIC/OSG meeting - great meeting overall with a few action items - minutes are available on this Indico link.
Main action items was to provide a submit host from both JLan and BNL (possibly at CNAF/INFN later / Andrea) + will verify the status of the VO setup to allow data Fderation.
CVMFS was agreed upon as for now to be BNL's repo. Will need to allow other users access and release.
A topic was bough in passing, if multiple users ought to share the same space, a minium path/area convention need to exists (similar to what RHIC experiments had in AFS)

  • We reviewed the requirements for the Yellow Report. Estimates were made.
    • For storage, proposed to enable snapshot on user's area + provision 1 PByte of additional storage which will provide for the YR requirements + BNL users
      • It was brought that the space on GPFS is for BNL users
    • CPU could be 1 M CPU hours (worst case estimate 3.5 M CU hours)
      • Imagine the 1 M can be absorbed by the OSG

  • BNLBox
    • Kolja provided instructions on how to use DROPBox and download files.
    • Questions came on what is best to propagate the password/account - not clear as there are no global protected space in the EIC (yet)
    • Otherwise, usage seems fine . Kolja can saturate his home network link - no signs of  saturation but not enough users
    • Tried to discuss orthogonality of BNLBox versus DataFederation - no opinion.

  • Archival storage - no opposition in providing some for the EIC

  • AOB - Asked for Invinio RDM interests
    • There was a discussion on portability forward / compatibility of zenodo once Invinio RDM comes to deployment state. Could ask Dirk or Lars.
    • Elke brought that SharePoint is being used by the project (CAD and other technical  drawings etc ,...) and wondered if there would be a clash later. She will check.
    • DocDB & zenodo was brought up as tools used in the community (no context)

  • Organization - all fine to have those meetings better organized. Possible frequency of those meetings once every other weeks, 16:30 -> 17:30

Action items [summary]

  • Provide feedback on the user registration instructions (all)
  • The EIC Phonebook available here seems to be of an ancient version.
(Torre) will follow up with Dmitry and Dmitry/Maxim will update. We need "send Email" capabilities" + single source with all recent development for all experiments highly desirable.
  • Enable snapshot on GPFS/EIC area if not already done (Jerome will follow-up)
  • Please provide feedback to Kolja on his write-up (all)
  • Archival storage to be provided for the EIC (Jerome will follow-up)

  • SharePoint usage (Elke)
Status 2020-04-24, 14:45: "all technical drawings will go into the CAD system and detector / IR related tech-notes will need to be integrated into their system as well, but this might mean that ones in a while things might to be merged, if we would decide to have them in both systems"
  • Status 2020-04-24, 16:43: Milestone M12 goal suggests zenodo to InvidioRDM migration support. "Migration of Zenodo and Digital Hub to InvenioRDM" https://invenio-software.org/products/rdm/roadmap/. "Don't think there is a need to talk to Dirk or Lars"
