Indico Upgrade Scheduled for Tuesday, October 14 – Phonebook Plugin Enhancements & Permissions Update
We’re planning on upgrading the production Indico system on Tuesday, October 14, to apply the latest improvements to the Phonebook plugin and important security updates to the core platform.
Scheduled Downtime
Indico may be unavailable at times from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM (ET) during the upgrade window. Please plan accordingly.
What’s Changing?
This release includes updates from the Indico changelog and the Phonebook plugin version 1.0.1:
-
Phonebook Plugin Enhancements
This is an upgrade to the existing Phonebook plugin already in use. It improves how privileges are applied across categories and is intended to resolve issues some new users have experienced when logging in for the first time. -
Event Material Permissions Update
Permissions for downloading event materials should now be enforced retroactively. That means older events will no longer default to public downloads — instead, materials will only be downloadable by event managers unless explicitly set to "Everyone" or "Logged-in users" by them.
This change introduces a new security setting that didn’t previously exist. It’s being implemented to prevent anonymous users from directly accessing or repeatedly mass-requesting material packages — often simultaneously — across multiple events. This caused general instability and issues with the service.
This update applies only to event materials and does not affect other permissions or access settings elsewhere on the site.
What You Should Do After the Update
- Review your event permissions in general, especially for past events, and for material downloads to make sure materials are accessible to the intended audience. The new setting will be in the Organize>Materials section under the updated "Settings" menu for event managers to review.
