        Overview from Miklos Czeller on changes (from the ITS3 design) for the SCB

        • Miklos has considered a CERN populated list of LDOs that have undergone radiation tolerance checks.
        • Two options seemed viable:
          • Analog Devices LT3033
          • Texas Instruments TPS7A45
        • The LT3033 was preferred due to its smaller footprint, however we are still awaiting a copy of the radiation tolerance report to confirm suitability within ePIC.
        • Preliminary PCB layouts suggest that the TPS7A45 could reduce the SCB footprint to 30*130 mm, while the LT3033 could shorten the board further (to 30*81 mm).
          • The ITS3 design (with bPOL12V) is approximately 30*220 mm).
        • Thermal load of the SCB is expected to be to the same order as the ITS3 design.
          • James to look into this further to report to the WP4&6 group at meeting on Wed, 23rd Sept '26.

         

        Similar changes to the DPB

        • To make the most of the LDOs in the SCB, the DPB will need to supply different voltages (than the previous 10V).
          • This will have some knock-on effects to IR-drop along cabling and cable gauge (to be determined).
        • To balance heat load in the DPB, it may be better to utilise two bPOL48V (instead of 1) and replace the (2) bPOL12V with the same LDO (ideally LT3033) as the SCB.
          • Footprint of the DPB is unlikely to change much (space saved by the LDOs, will be used for the 2nd bPOL48V).
          • This footprint should be similar to the FCB for the OB&Disks.

         

        Needs from the WP4&6 community

        • Approximate board locations (for the 68*SCBs and 16*DPBs) and cable lengths (DPB<->SCB and SCB<->SIB).
