Within the past couple of years, NNSA has greatly expanded its interest in use of our national user facilities for mission-related science. NSLS-II and CFN have unique resources well suited to addressing important national security challenges, and with investment, the potential to further enhance these capabilities. Many within these fields are just now learning how to harness the power of these tools or have yet to be introduced to them. Developing scientific collaborations between the NNSA and BNL could be valuable to both entities, and this workshop is geared toward laying the foundations for these potential collaborations. Growth of collaborations to showcase the power of the facility and streamlining of processes for working with hazardous and/or security-sensitive samples is expected to expand the user community in this area and interest in future investment. Collaboration efforts of interest include actinide sciences, advanced manufacturing, quasi-static and dynamic compression, imaging for national security applications, and many more. The workshop will feature discussions of ongoing and nascent collaborations as well as pathways to improved accessibility for performing national security related science at NSLS-II.
