Facility News

  • Surveys reminder to please participate SDCC user and Next-Gen IC resources questionnaires

Network & Facility Operations

  • CFN Lustre all network uplinks provisioned
  • Belle-2 disk all network uplinks provisioned
  • B725 new data center update:  on track for operations Q3 2021

Experimental Computing

  • reviewing with CYBER and SLAC EIC federatedID, S3 storage and OSG
  • STAR production tuning, singularity testing and upgrade after CYBER vulnerability
  • CAD revisiting tools needed and usage of HPSS storage
  • AI/ML lab vision approaching final stage (high level 1,3,5 year plans)

Fabric

  • NSLS-2 HPC cluster autofs mounts under /nsls2 resolves reported Spack issue with ‘+’ mount points
  • NSLS-2 basic Slurm config in place for some test users
  • NSLS-2 admins will be given control of the config via SLURM command line tools
  • Belle-2 purchase Supermicro finishing rack integration, delivery ETA ~ early February
  • sPHENIX Jenkins changes accommodate ssh-based Jenkins CI runner
  • Functional for sPHENIX but using ssh calls to run Singularity instead of Jenkins agent
  • investigating Apparent NFS issue is hanging the agent
  • sPHENIX dCache SAS cables replaced to resolve failure/performance issues and dccl limits increased
  • STAR HPSS staging issue, improved by adding 2 drives to STAR carousel config, 1 more being added
  • STAR now supplying 1000s of requests to the tape batch instead of previously 100s

General Services

  • ssh gateways atlasgw & rssh new logins are blocked since 1/1
  • Unified MFA with PrivacyIDEA, planning production Thurs. 1/28 8-9 AM
  • Public website redesign almost finished and feedback is welcome
  • Almost done moving old docs over
  • reminder liaisons can login and be given write privileges

Tools and Services

  • BNLBox ClamAV testing upload created significant overhead
  • now testing background hourly asynchronous scanning using Lustre changelings/robinhood to provide the file list for ClamAV
  • testing latest InvenioRDM alpha release
  • Covid-19-archive ONEID auth implemented
  • Testing Belle2 CDB adapted for a VM based test deployment
  • ELK syslog index - top 5 services are writing to new indices for optimization
  • ELK Planning to write parsers for the most common services and others of interest
  • Overleaf In discussions to acquire PRO license for collaborative online LaTeX
  • Planning to cover all of our supported programs
  • weighing pros and cons of cloud-based vs local installation
  • General web services cut over in coming weeks
  • 1/25 Mon  8-9 AM RT frontend move to new reverse proxy, enable Keycloak auth replacing legacy Shibboleth
  • 1/29 Fri 8-9 AM decommission legacy git repos if conversion to gitea is completed
