General new

  • See the slides for the overview

  • We will send out doodles to decide the regular meeting time.

  • Backward ECal/Hcal

    • What's the exact role of the backward Hcal?

    • Jets and low moment hadrons can reach the backward region.  But, let's discuss with Physics group to have more concrete physics processes to be concerned in backward region.

    • Need to re-evaluate the required resolution should be updated according to the benchmark process.  Again, we need to talk with Physics group.

    • Relevant discussion is that can we afford any material in front of ECAl, e.g. the silicon layers, in terms of electron ID?

      • (Sasha) Based on previous studies, trackers is beneficial.

    • A Lehigh student will take a look on the jet energy scale and resolution.

      • Can use the jet algorithms and HCal simulation in the package.

    • Suggest to have all the tasks and tutorials in wiki and communicate with the physics team.

    • What are the constraints for the calorimeter position?

      • It depends on many things, e.g. radius of Hcal, support structures.  Moving the position is easy, but, it's ok to keep it at the moment.

  • Barrel cal

    • Some concerns about re-using inner hcal for consuming space.  So, let's concentrate on PID using EMCal first, instrument the frame and the think about the Hcal.

    • Again, need to consult with physics group to get some exact resolution requirement.

  • Forward cal

    • (Hwidong) DRC is well validated detector, thus no doubt for its performance for experiment, and the development timeline fits the EIC schedule.

    • Korea has secured funding for the next 5 years ($ 2m) to build a prototype detector to contain a full jet.

    • ECCE will need ferromagnetic calorimeter for the B return.

      • (Hwidong) We are aware of it because the same issue exists for CEPC.  However, based on the latest study, steal is not the best choice for any calorimeters because the magnetic field indirectly affects fibers.  We are  working on various simulation, and will report in future meetings.

    • We should also keep in mind that the space in forward region is quite limited (1.5m), which is short for typical DRC.

    • Shalik Ecal's segmataion determined for PHENIX, so might not be enough for EIC as the distances from the collision point are different.
