Lattice Quantum Chromodynamics and Electrodynamics on a Universal Quantum Computer

by Angus Kan (University of Waterloo)

Description

Lattice gauge theories are essential in the study of particle physics. We provide a scalable quantum algorithm down to a gate-by-gate level to simulate lattice gauge theories (LGTs) of U(1), SU(2), and SU(3) with fermions on a quantum computer. The simulations include every element of the Kogut-Susskind Hamiltonian, the standard Hamiltonian formulation of LGTs. Furthermore, we perform a concrete estimate of the quantum computational resources required for an accurate simulation of the real-time evolution of LGTs of arbitrary dimension and lattice size.
