In addition to the uploaded presentation materials, the following QA and discussion was noted:

Experimental Support

  • Google offering is pushed by DOE and used heavily by the scientific community
  • survey results are posted and uploaded to presentation materials in Indico
  • questions remain about the cost of the Google offering and to which accounts

Fabric

  • Belle-2, PHENIX, sPHENIX are agreeable to an 8 hour mid-October HPSS maintenance
  • ATLAS may request earlier date sometime early to mid October
  • concerns are the B725 generator system is not yet ready for production
  • We will propose dates and contact Liaisons in preparation

General Services

  • asking Liaisons if there are any concerns with the eventual retirement of rcf3 host
  • possible use cases currently are access for Pine email client, and campus data transfer
  • Pine works fine with NX, and the new campus ftp service should be up beforehand
  • Any concerns with unifying multiple user LDAP accounts are different shells
  • users would have to choose a single shell
  • copy/paste NX issue should be resolved in NX v.7
  • issues with NX I/O errors timeouts and reconnecting still investigating
  • possible workaround is to use the back arrow at the bottom before re-connecting
  • privacyIDEA app push solution will eventually replace the current NX authorization

Topical Discussion - Jupyter Upgrade

  • how do ENV get loaded for users from multi-collaboration
  • based on GIDs of the user, they should be able to select from list of their experiment-provided ENV
  • this solves conflicting lab and notebook plugin requests
  • each experiment can maintain their own independent ENVs
  • users can also override their own per-user
  • default is to look in their home directory but can specify paths in NFS etc
  • there is a call for help testing from Liaisons or software maintainers in coming weeks

AOB

  • NSLS-2 currently in final days of 2nd shutdown plan to resume production early next week
  • NSLS-2 plans a third shutdown approximately 3 weeks in December TBA
  • STAR confirms RHIC run begins Dec 1 planning for 5 months PP500 high luminosity max data volume
  • After HPSS maintenance sPHENIX and STAR mock data challenges sometimes in October TBD
