Precision requirements at a proposed future Higgs factory are driving active developments, following new approaches in calorimetry. They already inspire ongoing detector projects and will fully bear fruit in the experiments at the next e+e- collider. The talk will introduce the basic ideas and present an overview of the CMS endcap calorimeter upgrade as a first application of highly granular calorimetry at large scale. Further developments towards calorimeter concepts at the FCCee, based on silicon, optical or noble liquid technologies, are gaining momentum, and an international R&D program is taking shape.
