Description

Abstract: Neutrino masses and the apparent dominance of matter over antimatter in our universe require physics beyond the Standard Model of particle physics. If neutrinos are their own antiparticles, i.e. Majorana particles, the underlying lepton number violation could elegantly link these two problems through a mechanism called leptogenesis. In this talk, I will discuss how leptogenesis and even direct baryogenesis can arise in models with Dirac neutrinos in two different scenarios: lepton number breaking by four units, or without lepton number violation at all. Experimental signatures include increased radiation in the early universe, proton decay, and, of course, the absence of neutrinoless double beta decay.
