Minutes
- Updates / Announcements:
- Project cooling meeting Friday, May 2 possibly 9am. Shefali can attend.
- Dates to remember: ESB for Baby BCAL (~June), Project Review (August), Beam Tests at CERN (August), ESB Test Article (November), Electrical Engineers Meeting (December?, NASA, ORNL, OSU, Regina).
- Minutes:
- The minutes were reviewed.
- Business arising: should we join the Korean CERN beam test in August? (Discussion offline).
- Reports:
- Fiber testing continues in Regina. Tegan has measured more fibers but the conclusion has not changed on the fiber performance (double vs single-clad, and vendor products). Fiber Scoring committee continues its work.
- Bo Geyong gave a presentation on the transmission as a function of wavelength of several light guides (borosilicate glass, cast an extruded acrylic, and different polish and flame treatment. The light guide shipment from Regina was received yesterday. A UV/Vis spectrophotometer was used for these tests. The slides will be uploaded to this Indico page soon.
- A healthy discussion ensued. Henry asked about the polish of the sides; Tegan’s simulations had “perfect” polish, but that can be changed and studied. Wouter showed a slide from Carl Zorn’s work at JLab, showing a similar behaviour as a function of wavelength for light guides made by Eljen for the JLab-Moller experiment.
- Highlights of Bo’s talk: glass performs best, with LG #9 (new cutter, flamed top and bottom sides), followed by other light guides. Eljen (and such specialized companies) provide good quality light guides, utilizing sometimes as much as 2x more expensive than a company such as MacMaster Carr. We might not need Eljen quality light guides. (BCAL used a similar company, Controlled Fluidics).
- Action Items:
- Aram to send questions to Norbert and engineers about the pinout.
- Zisis to check acrylic info with Ross Machine shop.
- Zisis to send BCAL thermal pad info to Manitoba.
- The next meeting will be on May 13. This will likely be a joint meeting between Systems Testing and ESB & DAQ. Presentations and updates are always encouraged.
