Introduction presentation (by Tony Wong)
Questions/Comments:
1) What's the usage pattern (users, communities, job types, etc) for IC gen1?
Information being tabulated by staff. Update will be presented at future meetings.
2) What's the proposed size if IC gen3?
Considering a mid-size cluster (similar in size to IC gen1). Will seek feedback from stakeholders before a potential proposal.
3) Please coordinate closely with ITD Networking in planning IC gen3.
4) Closer integration (ie, cross-mounting file systems) with existing resources would be desirable for IC gen3 (unlike the situation with IC gen1)
From RCF to SCDF -- evolution of the facility over the years (by Shigeki Misawa)
Questions/Comments:
1) Need to focus on SCDF's data preservation policy for RHIC experiments soon.
Future tape media technology (ie, upgrade to LTO-9 and later) will have a signficant impact on the footprint of preserved data in current tape silos.
2) What is the scale of the cost of new data center vs. old data center?
Not a topic for a technical meeting. This can be discussed separately.
3) Interest and request for more details on co-location at the SCDF--what cyber-security rules apply, and what is the nature and bandwidth of its network connectivity.
4) Positive comment about the location of the SCDF in the High-Throughput Science Network (HTSN), as a stand-alone network zone, separate from the BNL campus network.
