I discuss lattice calculations, within BNL and beyond, of the standard model hadronic contributions to muon g-2. I will reviewing the progress of calculations, from the first performed by Tom Blum at BNL, up to and including the recent theory initiative white paper. Making maximal use of the sensitivity of the Fermilab muon g-2 experiment to new physics requires theoretical errors be reduced from the present 620 x 10^{-12} to at least match the experimental error of 148 x 10^{-12}. I discuss prospects and plans for making this happen.
