Description

An excess of dileptons has been observed from the top RHIC energies of sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV down to the lowest SPS energies of sqrt(s_NN)= 9 GeV. The RHIC beam energy scan and the new facilities under construction NICA and FAIR will allow to push the measurement of dileptons to much lower energies and to establish the onset of the low-mass excess related to chiral symmetry restoration and of the intermediate mass excess related to the QGP thermal radiation. I will review the potential, challenges and prospects of these measurements.
