ePIC Workshop on Heterogeneous Computing

US/Eastern
Description

Heterogeneous computing combines multiple types of processors, such as CPUs and GPUs, to assign tasks to the hardware best suited for them, aiming to improve overall performance and efficiency.

Today, this approach is widely used in devices ranging from smartphones to supercomputers. In the future, computing platforms are expected to become more specialized, more intelligent, and more tightly integrated, with different kinds of processors working together seamlessly.

ePIC will operate in this emerging era of heterogeneous computing. Through this workshop series, we aim to define a coherent approach to heterogeneous computing within ePIC. The first session will provide an overview of heterogeneous computing and discuss perspectives from WLCG, DUNE, and JANA2. We will also begin exploring projects that are rethinking and redefining research workflows with heterogeneous computing in mind.

The workshop will be held remotely and welcomes participation from the wider community. The discussion will continue during the ePIC Software & Computing meeting on June 3, which will focus on detector simulations and heterogeneous computing, and again in July, when we will follow up on the action items identified during the workshop.

You can access the meeting details in the Zoom Connection menu on the left, or join directly using the following link:

We use Live Notes to capture the discussion.
