Description

This workshop will be the first of it's kind, originating from a current need of DA optimization at several accelerator projects, including the EIC, FCC-ee, light sources, and more.ย  It will be the first occasion to discuss the latest developments in state-of-the-art DA optimization that has been held in many years.ย  Latest theoretical and experimental developments are of high relevance for Brookhaven's next collider project, the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), to reach it's required performance in any of it's rings, the HSR, the ESR, the RCS, and possibly the REC.ย 

Furthermore, the workshop program will include discussion of studies towards the Future Circular Collider (FCC) planned at CERN, and of several light sources, including an upgrade to BNL's NSLS.ย  In person discussion and presentation related to recent theoretical, computational and experimental advances as well as discovered challenges will provide important input to the development of all these accelerators.ย 

Topics to Cover:ย 

  • EIC DA optimizations, including EIC, HSR, RCS, and the REC using differential beam dynamics for AI/ML optimization tools.

  • FCC-ee DA optimization

  • Light sources, e.g. NSRL-II, PETRA 4, NSLS-II and upgrades, APS, ALS

  • Dynamic aperture and lifetime optimization in design and during operation

  • Injection optimization in design and during operation

  • Resonant extraction optimization in design and during operation

  • SuperKEKB DA, measurements and simulations

  • LHC RDTs / DA measurements and corrections, including long range beam-beam

  • Design and optimization of HL-LHC and FCCee DA including imperfections and realistic tuning simulations

  • Large computing campaigns and novel DA exploration techniques including ML in Xsuite

  • Online/real-time DA optimizations on operational machines

        Dynamic Aperture Optimization in the Presence of Incoherent Beam-Beam Effects

        Modern high-luminosity circular e+e- colliders require the interplay between lattice nonlinearities and beam-beam interactions to be considered in dynamic-aperture (DA) optimization in order to achieve the required beam lifetime and overall machine performance. This presentation reviews recent studies of the impact of incoherent beam-beam effects on the DA of crab-waist colliders. It also discusses the principal sources of lattice nonlinearities and the basic theory of incoherent beam-beam tune shifts and resonances in crab-waist collisions. Particular attention is given to how beam-beam interactions modify single-particle dynamics and resonance structures, and to the resulting implications for nonlinear lattice optimization.
