he theory of resurgence is a new formalism that unifies perturbative and non-perturbative physics in a consistent way and has applications in many different physical systems. I will give an introduction to the basic ideas behind it and give examples to its applications. I will begin with some of the early ideas going back to Stokes and Airy regarding rainbows, then move on to the developments in asymptotic analysis, and how it unifies perturbative and non-perturbative physics. I will then talk about modern examples on quantum mechanics and quantum field theory. I will also report on broader applications of the ideas emerged from the theory of resurgence in different problems in physics.
