Guna Kuppan - updates on OMD and RP chambers
- New transition pipe from B1APF to OMD shown --> small amount of clipping of OMD particles are the corner --> Alex will need to get this geometry put into DD4HEP and see the impact.
- Goal is to keep chambers as small as possible, so chambers aligned with beam (at an angle w.r.t. IP) to allow them to shrink by a few inches.
- Neutron exit window transition could be an issue:
- the transition piece is at ~ 45 degree angle, perforated sheet (~ 1mm thick) of steel for impedance. --> could be an issue.
- Guna will follow-up with Alexei for more information and to see if other options exist.
- Transition bellows to connect to the first RP chamber causes interference with neutral cone.
- Need to add the remaining details to see how much encroachment there really is, and then Alex will need to discuss with the physics working group to discuss the tradeoffs.
- Question from Raphael: What is the thickness of the steel for the RP chamber?
- Yulia: need space for the patch panel for signal/power cables to enter into the chamber and connect to the staves.
- Raphael: 2cm thick steel will make feedthroughs challenging.
- Need to understand the spatial constraints to see if any UHV compatible solutions exits which meet our needs.
- Yulia: Installation procedure.
- Guna: all of the feedthroughs can be removed.
- We need to start thinking about these details.
- Karim: heat transfer from sensors to outside will require additional space + powering of peltiers, potentially conflicting with the signal ribbon cables.
- Charlie: a feedthrough for 32 ribbon connectors may not be possible.
- Raphael: how many actual signal wires are in each ribbon cable? How many actual connection do we need?
- Will discuss with Jack at Friday's electronics meeting --> he should have this information.
- Yulia: Support for the motor assemblies??
- Charlie: the assemblies have the support built-in, but Yulia is worried about stress for the horizontal motor assemblies. Charlie says they are really designed to work this way, only the components they are attached to need to be able to support the weight.
- Yulia: maintanance during the run and breaking vacuum?
- The issue is placement of gate valves, and time it takes to vent a section (~ 1 week downtime) --> in-run work is going to be challenging.
- Yulia: Can we shift the neutral exit window closer to the IP - it would make the window smaller, make the transition easier, etc.
- Guna: There is not enough separation between the neutral cone and proton envelope if we move closer.
- Raphael: There are A LOT of things to feedthrough to the outside, and it seems like we simply don't have enough room.
- Charlie: It is unclear how many ACTUAL things connect to the outside?
- one ribbon cable for each stave, cooling connections, power for the Peltiers, etc. --> we really need a concise requirement table for the RP and OMD detailing number of cables, etc.
- Karim: Can the Peltiers be put on the OUTSIDE of the chamber instead of inside the chamber?
- Raphael: not really feasible. Primary issue is the moving detector, need the ability to handle the movement, so the cooling components need to be also flexible.
- Raphael: with new scattering chamber, perhaps Peltier is not the best option - need new simulations to see what else can be done.

- Alex: What will be needed on the scattering chamber for the "cold points" - stainless steel isn't a good conductor of heat.
- Raphael: cold points should be a copper or something highly conductive.
- Charlie: don't the Peltiers do the cooling?
- Need to remove the heat from the Peltiers -- a couple of ways to do this.
Inspection and testing plan (for next week's meeting)
- Alex will finish putting together the information discussed on the sensor/ASIC side of the equation for next week's meeting, and then we discuss the mechanical part as a group.
