Facility News

• Welcome to Torre, Maxim, Brett in addition to the usual crowd

• User community representing various supported stakeholders (STAR, sPHENIX, DUNE, LSST, etc) requested continued RACF/SDCC mail service as an alternative to Office 365. The users accept that compliance with MFA requirement may degrade mail service for the time being. RACF/SDCC staff is currently looking for client solutions that comply with this new requirement

Network Operations

• New central storage for RHIC will deploy in rack 43-4

• First rack of NSLS-II Lustre storage will deploy in 79-5

• New HPSS movers and infrastructure in row-44S

• BCF Silo #3 migration to CDCE 11/19

• DUNE dCache setting up in row-41

Storage (Disk and Tape)

• PHENIX dCache upgrade planned for 12/3

• upgraded HPSS Library Management software is now ready for LTO-8

• completed re-IP of STAR Gws

• 11/19 downtime for relocation of BCF Silo #3 to CDCE

General Services

• redesign of the NoMachine (NX) Infrastructure is underway

• we will call for Liaison testing of NX changes in the coming weeks

• new DOE non-negotiable requirement: MFA for external access to email by 4/15/2020

• At this point we do not plan to eliminate our mail server rcf.rhic.bnl.gov

• We do not have MFA for all use cases due to lack of widespread client support

• We are evaluating and testing solutions for compliance

• Latest update to our Roundcube webmail has MFA option and a mobile friendly skin

Fabric group

• LBNE row25 machines data migration complete in preparation for retirement

Services & Tools

• Invenio testbed is in use presented as a tool of choice for data preservation
