Detector Complementarity

Speakers

Dr E. C. Aschenauer (BNL) Paul Newman (University of Birmingham, UK)

Description

  • What type of complementarity would be needed for EIC physics processes?
  • As an analogy for different types of complementarity one may think of CMS/ATLAS (two general purpose detectors with different technology choices leading to the ability to confirm discoveries and reduce systematics) and CMS/LHCb (one generalized purpose detector plus a more specialized experiment that might extend the science reach but possibly compromises the ability to reduce systematics due to the smaller overlap in science).
  • Going beyond this analogy it might be interesting to list EIC measurements versus most beneficial complementarity type.
