Housing and general information

General information about visiting BNL can be found here: http://www.bnl.gov/guv/   Useful information also here: http://www.bnl.gov/staffservices/index.php BNL is located at exit 68 of the Long Island Expressway (LIE), also known as I-495.

The workshop is classified as "open to the public".  This means it is not necessary to register yourself in advance in the BNL Guest Information System (unless you want to stay in onsite housing).  Simply present a form of picture ID (passport or drivers license) at the trailer next to the main gate to the Lab.

The workshop will be held in the Snyder Auditorium in Bldg 911.  Maps of BNL can be found here: http://www.bnl.gov/maps/default.asp

Getting to BNL from area airports

BNL has an arrangement for special rates with Enterprise for car rental.  Details can be seen here: http://www.bnl.gov/staffservices/enterpriserental.php Please use rate code FX0020.

You might be able to go without a car if you are staying on site or can make use of the shuttle service from your hotel to BNL.  There is a shared ride service from JFK or LaGuardia to BNL (or nearby hotels); it's often the case that you are the only rider.  Typically we use Spartan Limousine 631-928-5454.  The rate is approximately $70+tip one way.

Housing

Blocks of rooms have been set aside at the following locations.  If you stay at either of the hotels, you will probably need a car, although there might be some limited transportation service between the hotels and BNL (please check with the hotel).  If you wish to use on-site housing, you will have to fill out a BNL guest registration (details below); this holds for US citizens and non-US citizens.  For non-US citizens the process requires additional paperwork and lead time.
  1. Marriott Spring Hill Suites http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/ispsh-springhill-suites-long-island-brookhaven/

     $112/night (tax not included)

    "Group code" for booking: LHCLHCK

Seems to be a nice hotel, from what we hear....  Located at LIE (I-495) exit 65/66.  This hotel is probably closest to the Lab, although the differences are not that big.

  2. Hampton Inn  http://hamptoninn.hilton.com/en/hp/groups/personalized/I/ISPBHHX-LHC-20120501/index.jhtml?WT.mc_id=POG

This is a "standard" hotel for visitors to BNL.  Located just off the expressway at LIE (I-495) exit 63 North.

  3. Crowne Plaza Hotel http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/crowneplaza/hotels/us/en/holtsville/ispcp/hoteldetail

      $112/night (tax not included)

     Booking code: LHZ

Do not be alarmed that this hotel is in Riverhead, LIE (I-495) exit 72  If you have a car, it takes about the same amount of time to get to BNL from this hotel as from the others.  Riverhead has a bit of character (at least more than being right next to the expressway).

A limited shuttle service to/from BNL is also available in the morning and evening with an advance reservation.  Please inquire at the Front Desk.
