Several excursions are planned for the Wednesday Afternoon (15th July) details of which can be found below. Alternatively, you may wish to take this as free time to explore Glasgow. Some suggested attractions are also listed below.
Planned Excursions
There are 4 options to choose from. Details on each, including prices and a rough itinerary will be included below soon.
Option 1 - Stirling Castle
A coach trip to visit Stirling Castle, a former royal palace and one of Scotland's most impressive castles.
Option 2 - Loch Lomond
A coach trip to, and a boat trip on, Loch Lomond, a large loch (lake) in one of Scotland's national parks.
Option 3 - Clydeside Distillery
A visit and tour of a relatively new Whisky Distillery situated on the banks of the River Clyde in Glasgow.
Option 4 - Tennents Brewery
A visit and tour of the Tennents Brewery in central Glasgow, one of Scotland's oldest businesses and brewers of (arguably) one of Scotland's most popular beers.
Other things to do around Glasgow
Glasgow has a range of museums, galleries and attractions that may be of interest to you. Some suggestions for sites you may find interesting if you have time to spare before or after the meeting, are included below -
- Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum - Range of art and natural history displays
- Riverside Museum - Glasgow's award-winning transport museum
- Tenement House - Iconic style of Glasgow/Scottish housing displayed as it would have been shortly after construction in the 20th century
- Glasgow Necropolis - Victorian era cemetery featuring graves, memorials and mausoleums of famous Glaswegians from the 19th century, including a memorial for Lord Kelvin
- Glasgow Cathedral - 12th century cathedral in Gothic style
- Science Centre - Science and technology museum by the River Clyde
- Glasgow Botanical Gardens - Botanical gardens and greenhouse
- Hunterian Art Gallery - University of Glasgow art and artefacts collection
Note that the majority of these Other Things To Do attractions and venues are free. The Hunterian, Kelvingrove, and Botanical Gardens are all free and within a short walk of the meeting venue. The Riverside Museum and Science Center are also free and walkable from the University.
