Description

Motivation

The 6th Slow Extraction Workshop (SX 2025), hosted by Brookhaven National Laboratory, will be held at the Stony Brook University Wang Center from October 6-9, 2025. The SX 2025 Workshop will address topical issues associated with Slow Extraction, as well as provide a forum for experts to share research and experiences in this specialized accelerator subfield.

In July 2016, GSI hosted the first in a new series of workshops aimed at the issues, technologies, innovations, and theory of slowly extracting beams from particle accelerators. They assembled experts from around the world and ran a successful and meaningful meeting, summarized on this site.   A workshop on slow extraction had not taken place prior to this since 2002 and 2005 when two ICFA mini workshops covered related topics. Our punishment for their success was a continuation of the workshop as a series, hosted by CERN in 2017, Fermilab in 2019, KEK/JPARC in 2022, and most recently by Wiener Neustadt in 2024.

Poster Contributions:

Poster presentations will be accepted at this workshop. This is an excellent opportunity to present recent results not discussed in detail by the talks. It is also an opportunity for facilities to highlight capabilities and special features. Posters presented at previous conferences are accepted.

Investigations into multi energy extraction at MedAustron Lecture Hall 1

      Lecture Hall 1

MedAustron, located in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, is a synchrotron facility used for medical treatment and research. To decrease downtime and increase the efficiency of the machine, multi energy extraction (MEE) techniques are explored. An alternative extraction method to the present betatron core driven extraction is radio frequency knock out (RFKO). This method allows for extracting bunched beams, thus enabling re-acceleration or deceleration without recapturing the particles after partial extraction. This contribution presents MEE studies using the RFKO extraction method through measurements and simulations with Xsuite, exploring energy changes in both upwards and downwards mode. Of particular interest are the effects of the energy change on the longitudinal phase space distribution and the resulting spill behavior. The influence of main dipole ramp rates and RF parameters, such as voltage, on the longitudinal phase space distribution is characterized through longitudinal tomography.
